Attacks on the Bible

The Bible

By all centuries attacks have been committed on the Bible. But what is the Bible according to the Bible? Who is the author?
In 2 Timothy 3:16 we read: “Every Scripture is God-breathed...” The Scripture is inspired by God. The Greek word for inspired is:“Theo (s) pneust,” what means: By God-breathed (inhaled).” What does it mean? The Bible saying in 2 Peter 1:21: “Driven by the Holy Spirit, men spoke of God.”The Holy Spirit has told servants of the highest God what to write. Take for example the second part of the Bible – The New Testament. Why is this so reliable? The disciples of Jesus Christ were filled by the Holy Spirit (John 20:22; 14:17)/ Acts 2:1-13. 1:8, 2:38-39). And it was the Holy Spirit who dictated the writers. Before the Lord Jesus left the earth, He said to the disciples: “But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit Whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and He will recall everything I told you”(John 14:26). And what He brought into the disciples of Jesus is always the truth, because He is: “The Spirit of Truth. (John 14:17).

In addition, for example the disciples of the Savior lived and experienced everything with Him, saw and heard all (John 21:24-25). And it was the physician Luke (Colossians 4:14) that wrote everything in response to a detailed examination (Luke 1:1-4). And I can still continue.

But now about the First part of the Bible: The Old Testament. Why is this so reliable? This part also was written by people who were inspirited and full of the Holy Spirit! Take for example Jeremiah. He was full of the Holy Spirit (Jeremiah 1:4-10), and the Lord spoke to him (Jeremiah): “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Write all the words that I’ve spoken to you in a book… (Jeremiah 30:2), and: “Take a scroll for a book and write on it all the words I have spoken to you against Israel and Judah and all the nations from the day I spoke to you in the days of Josiah until this day.”(Jeremiah 36:2). Thus, both the Old and New Testament was written by holy, fulfilled with the Holy Spirit servants of God. Directed by the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Truth!! Who is the author? The person who writes or dictates? I’ll give an example out the life from Now.

As many people know, brother Sieberen Voordewind has written some scriptures. But how? Filled with the Holy Spirit and a servant of Jesus, I had paper and pencil in my hand. While the Holy Spirit came stronger upon me, more then I already felt Him, He dictates me what to write for other people. I gave the scripture to someone else who typed it on the computer. This text was sprint out and copied on colored paper, then widely disseminated. But who was the author of the leaflets with this powerful message on it? Whoever copied them? No! Whoever typed it out on the computer? No! Whoever wrote it? No! Oh dear, the name of brother Voordewind stood at the top of the message. But that was and is still such as “Jeremiah” above the Bible book “Jeremiah” and “Luke” above “the gospel to Luke” and “John” above “the revelation of John.” Now I certainly won’t place myself on one line with these wonderful brothers, but what I mean is: the person, whose words are derived, is the author. Who is the author of the Bible? The Living God! What is the Bible? The written Words of the Live God!

Attacks

Fortunately, through all centuries the spoken Word of the Living God is accepted and applied by many and many people in their daily life! But unfortunately there have been attacks and there are still “people” who bring discredit about God’s Word. In the first attack, we read in the first book of the Bible – Genesis. The Bible saying: “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, you may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Genesis 2:16-17).

After God had spoken, His opponent twisted these words. Thou shall not eat from every tree of the garden? However the serpent said to the woman: “You shall not surely die… “(Genesis 3:1, 4). God’s Word was: You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.” His opponent did as if it was a lie and claimed: “You shall not surely die. Eventually it appeared that God was right and time dawned that the man died. (Genesis 3:19; 5:5).

God’s Word was: “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, you may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and blessing and calamity you shall not eat.” (Genesis 2:16, 1 Translation The Book, 1988).

The opponent of God twisted His words and said: “The serpent … searched the woman and asked: Has God forbidden you to eat of the tree in the garden? (Genesis 3:1, Translation The Book, 1988).

The attacks on God’s Word began in the court of Eden, far, far, for the invention of the first wheel. It was the opponent of God – Satan - who spoke by an animal to the man and brought God’s Word in doubt. And still he uses doubt so people continue to sins. Now maybe not by an animal, but by a fellow human. The Bible saying: “For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood, but against the despotisms, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly sphere.”(Ephesians 6:12).

And how do the disciples of Jesus resist? The Bible saying: “Stand therefore, having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God; that’s the Word of God.” (Ephesians 6:13-14, 17 / Ephesians 6:10-20).

The disciples of Jesus don’t aim on the lies, but on the truth! What’s the truth? The Bible saying: “Your Word is truth.”(Psalms 119, 160). The Bible saying: “The Words of the Lord are pure words….” (Psalms 12:7).

Pure Words of God have the last word!
